We are education providers for Newport City Council and your child can have their funded place with us from the term after their third birthday.
It is a time of change in Wales, with a new curriculum for Wales in place from the 1st of September 2022 for children from the ages of three to sixteen.
The new curriculum for Wales is a continuum of learning for children from three to sixteen years of age. As it is a continuum there will not be phases or stages within this, therefore the Foundation Phase as it is currently will not exist from September. From September the term Foundation Learning, will be used to reflect the importance of this period of learning. To reflect Foundation Learning as part of the new curriculum framework, the Curriculum for funded non-maintained nursery settings has been developed through a collaborative approach.
The new curriculum takes a holistic approach to learning, keeping the developmental needs of children at the forefront. It recognises that:

❖ Children should have a voice and be valued
❖ Children have a need and a right to play
❖ The Welsh language is an integral part of the unique culture of Wales and helps children develop a sense of cynefin. (The place where we feel we belong, where the people and landscape around us are familiar and the sights and sounds are reassuringly recognisable. The historic, cultural, and social place which has shaped and continues to shape the community which inhabits it).
New Curriculum for Wales – The new Curriculum for Wales has 4 purposes, 5 developmental pathways and 6 areas of learning. These apply to early years as well as schools, so that children carry on their education continuously.
