Greenfields is a family run children’s day nursery owned by Jason and Karen. Jason is qualified level 3 in Childcare, Learning and Development and an experienced Primary School Teacher and Karen is a qualified dental nurse and holds a level 3 in Childcare, Learning and Development. She leads the nursery in Welsh Circle time and Welsh sessions. Karen is fluent in both written and speaking the Welsh language and is passionate in sharing her knowledge with the team and the children.
Our team are enthusiastic and passionate in their desire to make a difference to each and every child. Working with children is the most fun and rewarding job of all.
You get to be silly, children keep your energy level high, you learn from them, you get to celebrate little successes every day, you are part of their personal and educational growth, they motivate you to be patient, they bring out your creativity and imagination, they show love in the purest form.
We understand that choosing a nursery can be an emotional decision and we make every effort to create a ‘home from home’ environment in which you will feel confident leaving your little ones.
Every room in the nursery is bright and welcoming and has been created to test and excite the children. With planned topics and activities, we encourage the children to learn through play.
Although we are an English medium nursery, we embrace the fact that we are a nursery in Wales. We celebrate the language, culture, and history of our country. We have a Welsh word or phrase of the week, together with Welsh Circle time. Incidental Welsh is used throughout the day and Welsh songs and stories are a natural addition to nursery life.

Balancing Success: nurturing staff wellbeing growth and enhancing retention

Educ8 Training Group have been working with Greenfields Day Nursery in Rogerstone, Newport, for over seven years. Senior Account Manager Jade Evans caught up with Office Manager Jill King. She tells us how apprenticeships produce confident and competent childcare practitioners.
Staff well-being and development is a priority
Greenfields Day Nursery is a family run business that puts an emphasis on staff wellbeing, development and retention. At present the setting has a total of 16 members of staff with a mixture of full time and part time contracts. Greenfields take a proactive approach to well-being, rewarding hard work with incentives such as appreciation days, gift cards and staff events.
Staff development is highly regarded by Greenfields Day Nursery and the management team here are focused on consistent development for all of their staff.
Creating autonomous practitioners
Apprenticeships have tremendously benefitted all staff across Greenfields Day Nursery.
Staff have been given the opportunity to begin qualifications at the age of 17, where their skill set is minimal and have since gone on to become fantastic childcare specialists.
The apprenticeship scheme has produced confident and well trained individuals who are ready for the challenges that they face on a daily basis. Through the apprenticeship programmes, we are able to mould staff to support our business needs and encourage staff to become autonomous practitioners.
The instant impact of apprenticeships
I would encourage any business to look at using apprenticeships, staff are able to grow with the business and are assets to you. Whilst studying for their apprenticeships, staff complete theory and practice units which provide an immediate benefit to business.
The Essential Skills qualifications are also a fantastic tool in supporting the overall development of staff alongside their literacy and numeracy skills. These skills learnt throughout the apprenticeship programme have a very positive impact on our business.

Overall working with Educ8 has been an extremely pleasant experience. All queries are answered immediately and efficiently. Staff at Educ8 are excellent, informative and friendly.
